Am I Permitted?

Am I permitted to have a bad attitude? Anyone that knows me knows bad attitudes just ain't my way. Rarely do I let the little irritants of this secular life get in my tri shorts. So, I ask again... am I permitted to have a bad attitude?

Hopefully, the answer is 'yes' because, 'BoomerNation, I had one Class A case of the butt this morning. It began at 2:42 AM to be accurate. My shoulders ached, feet hurt, and most of my glasses were half empty. Plus, it's 2:42 in the friggin' morning and what was I doing awake anyway??

I fell back to sleep until the alarm buzzed at 4:15. Yah, I hit the snooze but wouldn't you know it the dang thing buzzed a short seven minutes later. There was somewhere I wanted to be this morning but since I wasn't well... I was all bitched off. I could have just hit the snooze again or got up and did something somewhat worthwhile like trim my toe nails and me and my bad attitude visitor could have had a morning alone.

But there was just one leeeetle problem... swim training was at 5:15 AM and 3,600 meters was beckoning. Didn't want to talk to anyone, didn't want to acknowledge anyone, heck... as far as I was concerned the pool could have been deserted and I'd perfectly OK with that... just FINE.

I grunted twice while at the pool because that was all the conversation I cared for this morning. The water was unusually cold. BONUS! (notice the sarcasm) After an hour or so I jumped out of the water, grumbled goodbye to the coach, and headed to my car.

That's when I saw all I needed to feel better. The sun rose turning the sky blue and gold. The breeze chilled my still wet hair. My thoughts turned to the coming spring, red maple buds, and northern cascades. All of those things that bugged me earlier seemed distant. The only purpose of my bad attitude was to let me know I was alive and I could choose my thoughts, attitude, and actions.

The future still holds its promise. Hell, yah, it does.

I turned in the parking lot, returned to the pool, thanked my coach for his instruction and chatted with a few of my tri-mates. Hopefully, they didn't notice that guy with the bad attitude earlier.

Stay tuned...

You are definitely permitted to be grumpy some days. You are lucky your bad mood only lasted a short time, they usually last all day for me.

Nothing like a little nature & sunrise to push the attitude in the right direction. You survived your grumpy morning. Hope the next one is in the far distant future.

One of "those" days happen from time to time, but I agree that your attitude can, for the most part, be a decision. You can either be miserable or make yourself feel better. Hey, if you can will negative things upon yourself, you can manifest happiness aswell.

PS. Great bit on GYGO report and I used www.beginnertriathlete.com to track my workouts. They added something similar to what you mentioned at mapmyrun. You can make divisions between running, biking, and swiming (if you know the area well enough by sight, you can plot an open water swim).

3600---on a grumpy day?? IN.ONE.HOUR?? DAY-UMMM! I was feeling a little heroic after completing my first 3k workout with some nifty pulling and long intervals. Now I'm feeling all mortal again.

Wow, my bad moods normally last the entire day! Yours didn't even make it past 7am. I don't think that even registers on the radar!

Kewl post! Takes a big man to admit to those "bad ass" days we all have. Takes a bigger man to allow God to plant hope in your heart and turn you around and continue to invest in what counts - PEOPLE.

Praise God indeed!

yeah, i turn into 'bitch-girl' sometimes. i'm not proud of it, but sometimes it takes a bad attitude to get you to notice the good...

Everyone has Grumpy Moments. Not everyone chases them away. Good for you!

Whew.

Before I thought you were superhuman, what with the fundraising success and, um, completing an ironman with pneumonia.

Now, I'm relieve to know that you have just a sliver of plain-ol'-human in there. ;)

You are permitted but I think you made the whole thing up! Triboomer doesn't have bad days. . .

How cool that you went in to thank your coach after a less than cheery workout. That, my friend, is grace.

I say "good on ya" for completing a 3600 yard swim when feeling grumpy. For me, the only solution to grumpy is a solitary run. Perhaps a solo bike in decent weather, but still probably the run.

It's amazing how people think a normally positive person isn't supposed to ever be down. Sometimes, you just need to be a grump.
