My First Podium Finish

As all ya'll know in the 'BoomerNation I was not selected as the newest member of Team EvoTri. That distinction goes to Sara. And, as I said in my previous post, both EvoTri and Sara have scored big.

Thank you to all that voted and placed me in the top three vote-getters. It was my first triathlon related podium finish ever. I've had two top ten finishes in actual races (you know... the kind with swimming, biking, and running) but most of the time I finish near the middle of the pack.

It feels good to know so many are behind me and the cause of raising money to fight cancers and had confidence that I could make it onto Team EvoTri. When I came to the interview portion of the competition, my idea for an original event or project was not selected.

I'm not ready to reveal the entire idea to the general public because it's not ready for prime-time. There are a few pieces to be put into place and when that happens I will announce all of the details here.

That said, I will tell you the core concept...

... for athletes world-wide to dedicate one race in the honor of another. The race should be run during the first ten days of August 2008 to coincide with the Beijing Olympics.

I believe as athletes we can use our gifts of abilites... and they are gifts... to encourage, motivate, and inspire others. Ours is a sport that by its nature is self-centered. Many of those watching us see much of our time invested in training and racing is directed only for self-improvment and personal performance. Although there is absolutly nothing wrong with improving yourself there is a drop of truth that our efforts are highly personal. My idea is to enhance our sport while finding a noble purpose for our swimming, biking, and running. Take the time to race in August to honor another. Toe the line for a cause in addition to yourself. Spend a bit of your good health capital to lift another up, bring attention to a need, or help provide for the common or specific good.

Mark your calendars for August 1st to 10th. This is your time to be a champion.

Your race,

Your cause,

Your Heroes!

Stay tuned...

Great idea, Boomer! And I will gladly promote your idea on EnduranceSportsBar.com. Sounds like it'd actually fit right in with my second community challenge!!
