We did it!

WE DID IT!

WE. DID. IT!

It's with great joy today I announce that last night we reached the $30,000 fundraising mark for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! Wow, 'BoomerNation, I mean, WOW!

Over two hundred people and companies are joining me in the fight to provide patient services and fund research against blood cancers. Contributions were received from places far and wide including Canada, the United Kingdom, Korea, Italy, Taiwan, Russia and the USA.

Your generosity IS saving lives. In the past 30 years the number of cases of childhood leukemia has been cut in half and the survival rate for certain types of blood cancers has nearly tripled. The latest life saving drugs are often majority funded by donations such as yours. However, there is still much work to be done because we don’t have a cure. Sadly, every nine minutes somebody dies from a blood cancer and that’s unacceptable.

Let me recognize three benefactors. First, to my mother; she's an ovarian cancer survivor and was the first to make a donation when all of this was no more than a hope. Thanks mom for being my first in life and my everlasting supporter. To Merrill Lynch & Company; without their employee matching gift program we'd remain thousands of dollars short of the goal. And to TriDaddy, you have the distinction of being the contributior to put us over the top. Thank you for siezing the opportunity and making this post possible. I look forward to buying you a drink at the Ironman Florida victory party.

To all those who donated; thank you in supporting me in my quest to fight leukemia and race in Ironman Florida. It doesn't matter if you donated early or late, you have done an amazing thing for someone. Every one of your donations counts and is making a meaningful and lasting impact. Again, thank you one and all.

I’ve never attempted a full Ironman triathlon before and the outcome is yet to be known. You can follow me on http://www.ironman.com/ by clicking on the link “Track an Athlete” and searching for my bib # 1544. Also, it's not too late to submit names to the Ironman Florida Honor Roll 2006. Send me the names of who you know that is fighting, surviving, or as passed away from any form of cancer and I will carry it in my jersey for the entire 140.6 miles to honor you both.

My prayer is that I run out of air before run out of courage.

Stay tuned…
