Hello to all in the BoomerNation. I hope you’re enjoying a summer weekend with good training, PR racing, and good friends.
My day started with a 60 mile ride with a friendly group of guys and gals. They’re training for the 25th Annual Hotter‘N Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls, Texas and are nice to let me put in some miles with them too. Once the ride was done I jumped into my running shoes and pounded out a 45 minute run. Unfortunately, I couldn’t talk any of the others into joining me in the fun so I had to run solo. Ya know, sometimes it's lonely to be a triathlete.
But any who... after the run it was back in the car and off to meet Brett, his wife, Emily, and young son, Kai of Zen and the Art of Triathlon podcast at the Richardson Bikemart. They are here to get their race packet for the Ironhead Dallas Triathlon. (I’m volunteering at the race this year.) We met at the right place and at the right time but there was one small problem: packet pickup in Richardson was yesterday. YESTERDAY?!
Oh crap!
Wait, that's no big. I'll just...
... call race director on his cell phone. He picked up on the first ring and told me the packet pickup today was in Arlington. ARLINGTON?! That’s over a half hour drive away and Brett isn’t familiar with the area.
Oh crap!
Wait, that's no big. We'll just...
... jump into the Zen Tri rolling podcast studio (their family pickup truck) and drive to Arlington together. We found the place without any problems only to be told we were almost two hours too early. TOO EARLY?!
Oh crap!
Wait, that's no big. I'll just...
... schmooze the race director’s wife and ask her to let us get the packets early. And...
... she DID!
Ahhh… all was well, finally.
Hopefully, my volunteer station will be near transition and I can see Brett and Emily race together. Look for more about the triathlon here soon.
Stay tuned…

Something tells me that you may do your fair share of "schmoozing!' Am I right?
~RR~
Who, me? ;-)
dude, you are doing IM Florida!
awesome!!
what a party it is gonna be.
Nice. I've been to that bike store! My friend Mary lives in Dallas/Ft.Worth, and one of my stops on my summer road trip last year was to spend the weekend w/her & her boyfriend. They took me to Richardson for some bike porn :))
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Y'all need to come to H town for a massive training weekend. Brett and Emily are doing iron star and I live near the course. Tell 'em to bring Kai along. Mrs. Greyhound's students are babysitters unlimited.
That was some first-class schmoozing! I like the numerous back-up plans, too.
