Broken on Boylston

I had been out less than a minute when I came back to conscious, resting against a telephone pole, and surrounded by three runners. That's what I remember about the water table near the 30 kilometer marker.

Uhhhh boyh. It was that kind of day.

What started out as an easy, fluid, feeling strong pace, ended with five episodes of vomiting, one black out, and run-stopping leg cramps.

A paramedic offered to drive me to the finish line.
I refused.
I ran the rest of the course,
on my own power,
on my own terms,
in my own time.

And thank you to all of you who followed along and left some comment luv.

Oh, and Kim, you rocked the race reports too. Happy to hear your TNT buddies had a good race. Plus, Nancy Toby, you're always sunshine on a rainy day. Thanks for broadcasting the updates to the TRI-DRS peeps.

A more detailed report will follow but for now... I'm off to get some ZZZZZZZZ's and recover.

Oh, before I forget... look what was waiting for me in my hotel room.

Ahhhh... finishing tastes so sweet.

Stay tuned...

YOU MADE IT!!!!

I watched the weather report safe and warm in tropical Singapore, and it warned that the Boston Marathon may be cancelled this year. Kudos to you for making it despite the freakish weather!

Good job finishing on your own terms. What brutal weather!

Wow, great job on finishing. That is truly impressive. I am a Boston native and I have never run the marathon (maybe someday if I ever get faster) and I have the utmost respect for those taking the challenge. This year was especially challenging, way to show that race what you are made of!

Holy moly, Boomer, sounds like an awful day, but you persevered!!

Did you figure out why you had such problems? Illness? Hydration? Sodium?? Sounds pretty nasty!!

Have a speedy recovery!!

Glad to hear you finished. I had you tracked through 30K, and was constantly frustrated at the delays with the athlete tracker reporting speed (kind of like IM races).

Awesome job finishing in very rough conditions.

Way to stick it out Brian! I'm glad you made it in one piece. I was thinking of you yesterday as I was experiencing the not so great weather here in CT as well. Can't wait to hear the full report! :)

Way to go with a strong will and determination of finishing on your own terms. I thought it was easy then when the hills + the weather added up I was spent after 30K too. But we finished. Good job.
