Predict This! (for Charity)

Hey 'BoomerNation, here's your chance to test your race prediction powers ... and spread a little charity to boot.

It's a contest and here's how it works. Be the closest in predicting my finishing time at the Boston Marathon on April 16, 2007 and you'll win. If your guess is the closest to my actual finishing time I'll make a $50 donation to the charity of your choice. And you'll get some nifty TriBoomer schwagg.

(It might only be an autographed and crumpled Gatorade cup but at least you'll have something suitable for display.)

To help you in making your super duper guesses here are my personal bests at various distances:

1 mile: 6 minutes, 17 seconds
5k: 23 minutes, 51 seconds
10k: 51 minutes, 09 seconds
Half Marathon: 1 hour, 54 minutes, 39 seconds
Marathon (Ironman Florida): 6 hours, 00 minutes, 03 seconds*.

So, go to one of those time prediction web site thingies, consult the Psychic Hotline, or make a wild-ass-shot-in-the-dark guess and put up a time. If you're the closest you'll become famous, immediately irresistible to the opposite sex, and your favorite charity will be 50 bucks to the better.

Stay tuned...

*Yah, I was hardly running faster than my stink but whadayagonnado? It was my first Ironman afterall.

Legal mumbo jumo as written by the law firm of Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe ...

Official finishing time is the electronic chip time. The deadline for predictions is midnight April 15th Pacific Time. A prediction must be posted in the comment section of this or any future posts up until the deadline. (No emails please.) Predictions may be changed by submitting a comment with the updated time before the deadline. The last prediction received by a blogger is considered to be their final prediction. Contest is void where prohibited. Not valid in any city that the sun doesn't rise in the east and Perry County, Pennsylvania. ('cuz I gots a problem with them hillbillies.)

I think you can go sub-4, but it sounds like you're not quite marathon trained right now, and I'd think you'd be starting a taper now, not training.

But I wish you the very best event, regardless of your time!

Ah, I miss the days of living in Massachusetts where Marathon Monday was a state holiday! We know how to do marathons right! Okay, so it's technically "Patriot's Day" but who's counting?

We are so close in run time PR's ! I don't recall you getting too much training in for this race. I managed 5:08 last week in very gusty winds.I trained a LOT for this race. W/O the winds I might have gone 4:45-ish ?
My guess is that you'll at least go 5:13 if its not too warm.
I hope you go faster : ) but thats my prediction.
Looking forward to your RR !

I've been waiting to see what everyone else guesses before I made mine. Some call it cheating, I call it strategy :)

Having run 3 Bostons, and knowing the course all too well, I'm going to say 4:22:01. Don't let the opening 17 miles suck you in since they are theoretically downhill (yeah, right). Hang onto your hat from mile 16 to 21... At 21 you are over the top of Heartbreak and that downhill right there can be brutal, and then you've got a few more little up and down blips, but once you turn onto Boylston and can see the finish line, savor those last 600 yards.

I'm going to guess 4:52...good luck Brian.
