Ironman Florida Honor Roll 2006

A few days ago I blogged about racing with a list of names at Ironman Florida 2006. At that time the list didn't have an official name but now it does. 'Boomer Nation say hello to the Ironman Florida Honor Roll 2006...

It’s only 22 days until Ironman Florida and the excitement is growing for the Ironman Florida Honor Roll 2006 honoring those surviving, fighting, or succumbed to cancers. The list is over 60 indivduals strong from seven states and three countries plus the entire Arkansas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center. I’m reading stories of bravery and triumph as well as heartache and hope. Each and every person, each and every soul on the list is an honoree joining me for the 140.6 mile journey.

I was talking with TriGreyhond on the phone about how the list will undoubtedly help me finish the race. He said, “One hundred more steps for Sue and then one hundred steps for Bob, and so on and so on through the run.” That captures the scene in my imagination perfectly. The list of names surely will keep me moving towards the goal of a finish.

Is there somebody you know I can honor? Is there somebody you know that can cheer for me long and loud from earth or Heaven above? Tell me the name of who you know is fighting, surviving or has passed from any form of cancer in a comment or email me at TriBoomer@comcast.net and I'll bring them to race with me.

Stay tuned…

This is so awesome. It's such a great way to give back. My list DEFINITELY helped me get through my race.

You can add my Great Aunt Betsy to your list--Betty Eckstein. A phenomenal woman, full of life and always smiling. She passed away of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 1999, and she was with me on my day in Wisconsin.

So excited to follow your day!

TriSaraTops,

Thank you for your words of encouragement. It's for the memory of phenomenal people like your Great Aunt Betsy, and for those fighting cancer, that I started triathlons. I’m happy that she’ll be with me during the race.

TriBoomer,

You are already honoring their names, their lives and their memory. Great idea and we can't wait to read about your success.

I'll be sending a few names your way including one of my best friends and cycling buddies mom who just died a few days ago.

What you are doing is incredibly personal...my mom died of cancer in 1997 and still smiles down on me everytime I need a spark -- which in this sport seems to be daily.

Great job!

Hey LoneStarCrank,

You got it! I'll be the honored and humbled one to carry their names. I'll need all of the Heavenly shine I can get.

Stay tuned...

Boomer,

Thanks so much for this. Auntie Ely died Tuesday afternoon -- but she would have been pleased to know she could help cheer you on. I thank you immensely for offering this tribute.
